The OAU lecturer, Professor Richard Iyiola Akindele, who found himself in the prosecution box for sex scandal has finally pled guilty. The former lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife reportedly changed his plea from ‘not guilty’ to ‘guilty.’
The prosecutor, Shogunle Adenekan said all parties in the matter have reach plea bargain and pleaded for a suspended sentence for the accused. The Punch reports that the matter was stood down for one hour.
According to Francis Omotoso, the counsel to the defendant, an applicationhas been filed for his bail but was opposed by Kehinde Ayantoye, a senior legal representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) filing a counter affidavit
However, Justice Maureen Onyetenu said allegations contained in the counter affidavit were weighty and directed the prosecution to produce evidence to back his claim.
Meanwhile, after finding him guilty of sexual scandal, the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, has sacked Professor Richard Iyiola Akindele ever since, as announced by Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, the vice chancellor of the university at a press conference in Ile-Ife on the 20th of June this year.
