President Buhari has stated what his re-election campaign will focus on. According him, his re-election focus will make security, economy and fight against corruption the reference point of the performance of his administration in the last four years.
However, President Mohammadu Buhari assured Nigerians that his administration will always make every efforts to tackle the challenge of insecurity which has led to banditry, kidnapping, the conflicts between the farmers and fulani herdsmen.
Buhari was saying this at a Chrismas Homage by residents of the Abuja. He added saying.‘‘Unless we secure the country, we cannot manage it properly… that is why shortly after I was elected, I went to Chad, Niger, Cameroon and the Republic of Benin to seek their support in the fight against the insurgency.
‘‘People in the North East know that we have recorded remarkable improvement in the fight against Boko Haram.’’
However, this gathering comprises political, religious and traditional leaders. In his words President Buhari made reference to the achievement his administration has made in the area of infrastructur, agriculture and social investments which according has been transformed. He added saying, ‘‘I am very happy that all the people who returned to agriculture have not regretted it,’’
None the less, he also plegded to give the fight against corruption his best until all the stolen resources that belongs to Nigeria are recovered. He further buttressed on a lighter mode saying, people were calling him “Baba Go Slow” on the fight against corruption because he had refused to use coersion but go through due process of democracy in his fight against corruption. Saying in his very words, ‘‘When I was going fast I was arrested so why should I go fast again. It is not Baba that is slow it is the system. So whatever the case I will not stop pointing fingers at those who have illegally abused trust by taking (public) funds entrusted to them,’’
He further added, ‘‘Very soon we will go to the geopolitical zones to remind the people of our promises in 2015 on three fundamental things; security, economy and the fight against corruption.
The FCT Minister in his speech on this special occasion to the president said: ‘‘we in the FCT are your flock and we know you will continue to lead us to the Promise Land.’’
