January 30, 1649: England’s King Charles I was beheaded.

January 30, 1835: Richard Lawrence misfired at President Andrew Jackson in Washington DC in the first attempted assassination of a US president.
January 30, 1844: Richard Theodore Greener became the first Afro-American to graduate from Harvard University.
January 30, 1847: The town of Yerba Buena was renamed San Francisco
January 30, 1908: Indian pacifist and leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was released from prison by Jan C. Smuts after being tried and sentenced to 2 months in jail earlier in the month.
January 30, 1948: Indian political and spiritual leader, Mahatma Gandhi was murdered by Hindu extremist Nathuram Godse
January 30, 1956: Matin Luther King Jr’s house was bombed in retaliation for the Montgomery Bus Boycott
January 30, 1965: State funeral of Winston Churchill was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, the then world largest ever state funeral.
January 30, 1972: Pakistan left the CommonWealth of Nations in protest of its recognition of breakaway Bangladesh.
January 30, 2000: Off the coast of Ivory Coast, Kenya Airway flight 431 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing 169.
January 30, 2016: Boko Haram militants on motorcycles attacked Dalori village near Maiduguri Nigeria, killing at least 65 and leaving 136 injured.
