The very disturbing news of INEC office being attacked by fire just few days to the election is a bad omen for the 2019 elections.
It is reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission office located in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State was engulfed in fire as a result of the carelessness of a drunk security man. The Plateau State INEC Head of Department ,Voters Education and Publicity, Osaretin Imahiyereobo affirmed the veracity of the incident. The ugly incident is no doubt a great limitation to the success of the election in that part of the country.
It is also reported that sensitive materials like ballot boxes, uncollected PVCs, voters register and a host of others were all burnt. In a very crucial time when a lot questions are hanging in the air concerning the capacity of INEC to ensure a free and fair election, incidents like this type will go a long way to frustrate the efforts of INEC in organizing a successful election and we can only hope that INEC is able to remedy this ugly situation and ensure that it does not adversely affect the election that comes up in less than a week time.
