Recalling that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has just drastically increased the fee for governorship nomination form from 5 million to N20 million, the reason behind this decision has been revealed by the spokesperson for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan.
Mr Kola Ologbondiyan told journalists that the proceeds from the sales of forms to aspirants will help the party to cover the cost of conducting free and fair primaries for contestants.
According to Mr Ologbondiyan, the party had set up an investigation panel to probe what happened at the National Assembly leadership elections where some members of the PDP allegedly voted against the party’s preferred candidates.
However, this decision was made on Thursday at the 86th emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja as announced by Ologbondiyan.
Whereas, this new fee being charged for governorship nomination form is coming ahead of the November 16 governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states. Mr Ologbondiyan of the PDP noted that the cost of printing voting materials and logistics have greatly contributed to this new development.
