President Buhari returns to Nigeria, lands in Maiduguri for condolence visit to Borno governor

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Nigeria from Ethiopia – The president had left the country for the 33rd AU summit held in Ethiopia – Buhari landed in Maiduguri on a condolence visit to Governor Babagana Zulum.

newsfeed.ng reports that the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, made this known in a statement he issued on Wednesday, February 12. He said the president aboard the BBJ from Addis Ababa landed in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, to pay a sympathy visit to the government and people of Borno following the recent horrific incident in which Boko Haram terrorists killed several travelers.

“President Buhari, aboard the BBJ from Addis Ababa just landed in Maiduguri. He is paying a sympathy visit to the government and people of Borno following the recent horrific incident in which BH terrorists killed several travelers,” he said

Meanwhile, President Buhari reassured Nigerians and the international community of the steadfast commitment of his administration to secure the freedom of all children and other victims of abduction by terrorists.  It was reported that the president renewed the pledge on Monday, February 10, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at a high-level breakfast dialogue on “stop the war on children affected by armed conflicts, a dividend of silencing the guns,’’ a side event during the 33rd AU summit. This was revealed in a statement issued by the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, on the evening of Monday, February 10. Also, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed sympathy for Nigerians recently killed by Boko Haram in Borno state.

The president, his delegation and members of the Nigerian community in Ethiopia observed a minute of silence in honour of those who passed away in the attack. The honour was done to the victims before the commencement of the president’s meeting with Nigerians living in Ethiopia.
